Vintage 1970s Maxi Dress Marissa Black Geometric Op Art Print Polyester Jersey

This is a vintage 1970s maxi dress by Marissa, featuring a striking geometric Op Art print in orange, yellow, gold and cream against a black background.

The dress has a long, gently flared silhouette with a fitted upper body, defined waist and full-length skirt. It features a large pointed shirt collar, long fitted sleeves and a button-front bodice fastening with small, fabric-covered buttons that blend into the print.

The print is particularly distinctive, combining intersecting curved lines, radiating arcs, overlapping grids and angular geometric shapes. The fine lines create a sense of movement across the fabric, while the bright orange and yellow elements provide contrast against the black background. The pattern continues across the sleeves and back of the dress.

The skirt falls from the shaped waist into a widening A-line silhouette that falls in soft drapes, extending to maxi length. The long sleeves are finished with narrow, plain cuffs.

The dress is made from polyester jersey knit with a smooth surface, soft drape and some stretch. Its overall design, particularly the exaggerated pointed collar and geometric print, is characteristic of early to mid-1970s fashion.

The original Marissa® label is present at the neckline. The country of manufacture has not been confirmed, although similar examples have been found with Made in Canada labels.
