This is a wonderful winter jacket or short coat made out of a Hudson’s Bay point blanket. This is an official issue coat by Hudson’s Bay and has a 1970s era label on it. Three and a half “point” lines are visible at the lower inside opening. The wool is a very attractive red colour with black bands. The buttons are arranged in a six button “double breasted” style and buttons to the left, so this is meant for a woman. There is also a button under the left collar should you wish to close the neckline. The jacket is lined in black satin acetate. The coat has a notched lapel, a vertical slash pocket at either side and has turned black cuffs. It is made in a mid-thigh length, easy to wear.
Label: This Garment Is Made From Genuine Hudson’s Bay point blanket - Hudson’s Bay Company Incorporated 1670 - The Seal Of Quality - 100% Wool CA00234. The content label has the ILGWU union logo on the backside, this version used between 1968 and 1984.
There is no size label, but this coat should fit a size medium - please check the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the wool and the style of the coat into account:
Shoulders: 17” across seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 24” long
Sleeve Inseam: 15 1/2” long
Chest: 44”, taken under the arms
Waist: 44”, around
Hips: 48” around, taken around the black band
Overall length: 30 1/2”
Condition: The piece is in very nice condition - it still has very good nappe (wool finish) and shows no signs of pronounced wear to the exterior. The right pocket, however, is torn so would need repair. Also, the label at the neck is worn due to contact, to be expected given its position (see close-up label).
This is a really cute Hudson’s Bay blanket coat - easy to wear length for the active person, nice colour and quality!
