This is a vintage 60s small handbag purse made in the form of a treasure chest. The interior is stamped “Tano of Madrid Made in Spain”.  Tano was actually an American importer, founded during the 1930s by a Spanish immigrant named Sebastian Giner.  By the 1960s, when this was made, Tano was one of the leading handbag companies in the US.  The zipper pull on the interior has “Areitio” emboss stamped on it with a horse within a horseshoe on the opposite side.  Areitio is known for making these type of chest handbags during the 1950s and 60s, so it is quite possible that Areitio made this for Tano, which was actually an importer and distributor.  The purse has a leather exterior and brass hardware - brass hinges, clasp, studs and bun feet, which are affixed to leather pieces that are wrapped around the lower corners of the purse.  The clasp is positioned on an angle, which appears to be correct.  The interior is lined in black leather and has one zippered pocket built onto one open pocket.  It has leather covered handles.

Sizing:  The purse measures 6 1/4” wide by 5 1/8” high by 5” deep at its bottom.  The handles have a “fall” of 3 3/4”.  The interior measures 3 1/2" by 5 1/2" with a height of 3 1/8", not included the cavity caused by the lid when it is closed.  Note that the bottom flares out slightly.

Condition:  It is in very good condition - this purse doesn’t look to have seen much, if any, use and is very clean.

This is a wonderful quality purse - cutest shape, sure to be noticed!
