This is a vintage 1960s small evening purse or minaudiere made in the form of a rhinestone studded gold metallic chest. The interior is stamped “Rodo” - Rodo was founded in Florence, Italy in 1956 by Romualdo Dori, the name being a combination of the first two letters of each of his names. The purse has a handle made of six “roped” wires. The exterior is made of chased gold toned metal that is studded with rhinestones in flower-like clusters. The interior is lined in gold leather and has one side pocket built onto the open compartment. It closes with a hinged clasp.
Sizing: The purse measures 4 7/8” wide by 3 1/2” high by 3 5/8” deep at its bottom. The handles have a “fall” of 2 1/8”.
Condition: It is in very good condition with the exception of a small dark spot on the upper back left near the edge (see last close-up photo). Probably could be touched up by an artist if desired, but it is really a major defect. There is a small gap across the top opening when closed - I guess that this is simply made like this as the clasp lines up. Otherwise, all rhinestones are present and this purse doesn’t look to have seen much use and is very clean.
This is a wonderful quality evening purse - Rodo is renowned for their evening bags. This has the cutest shape, very classy evening accent, sure to be noticed!
