This is a vintage mens fedora hat, custom made by Montreal milliner Buckley.  I’ve had Buckley hats in the past, and they’ve all been custom made and have been of exceptional quality.  This one is made of beaver fur in a deep green colour in a velour finish, very soft and of obvious quality.  The felt is quite pliable so the crown top can be indented with slightly different height.  It has a leather sweatband but no liner.  The sweatband is gold stamped “Buckley Custom Beaver” with a coat-of-arms that has a banner that reads “Since 1895”.  It is also gold stamped with the retailer’s name “Leo Trudel Le Rendez-Vous de l’Homme Bien Mis St-Hyacinthe” (The place where well-attired men gather).  It also has the United Hatters Union label that was used between 1934 and 1983.

Age: most likely early 1960s as the Buckley-Brooks company assets were bought by the Biltmore Hat Company in 1965, but possibly late 50s.

Material:  Beaver fur felt

Size: 7 1/8 (medium).  The label, as mentioned, also reads “Custom Made”, so this would be a better quality hat than an inventoried hat.  The opening measures 22 1/4” around the sweatband, and 6 1/2” by 8” across the opening.

Condition:  It is in very good condition with no wear or staining - this hat looks to have seen little use and was well stored over the years.

This is a very nice quality custom made beaver fur hat in a very attractive green colour - great addition to a collection!
