Vintage 1960s Hermes Paris Silk Scarf Shirt Dress Napoleon Pattern Signed Ledoux
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is an exceptional, and rare, shirt dress made by Hermès Paris. The piece is made of superior quality silk and based on a Napoleon scarf design by Philippe Ledoux. The original Napoleon scarf was issued in 1963 and then re-issued in 1985 and subsequently. I believe that this piece dates to the 1960s due to its style and short length - too long to be a blouse and doesn’t really fit into the styles of the 1980s or 90s. I’ve owned this blouse for 35 years and acquired it second hand, so that should speak to its age. The silk is woven with raised bees overall and the attention to detail is amazing - note the placement of the Hermès-Paris signature, which also appears under the collar, the placement of “Napoleon” just under the back collar, and the overall symmetry of the design. Even the buttons have a woven bee centred on them (see close-up photo). The design is signed “Ledoux” at the lower left front. As mentioned, the dress is in a shirt style, but the neckline is open with no buttons or other closures. The Hermes label is no longer there, but there is no doubt as to the authenticity of this piece - it speaks for itself!
