Vintage 1960s Gold Silk Lame Couture Dress Norbert Niewelt
$175.00
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is a wonderful 60s era dress made by Montreal couturier Norbert Niewelt. I've been able to find very little about Norbert Niewelt other than Mario di Nardo, a respected Canadian designer of the 1950s and 1960s who learned "European couture" while apprenticing with Norbert Niewelt for one year.
This Norbert Niewelt dress is beautifully hand sewn using high quality silk fabric with a metallic gold "branch" pattern woven into it. The dress is made in a quasi-wrap style, completely open at the front, and secured closed with two snaps at the right inside shoulder, one at the neckline and one at the waistline. The waist is cinched with a matching sash belt with a metallic tassel at either end. It has a square pocket affixed in a diagonal placement at the lower right side. The dress is lined in beige silk fabric. This was obviously an expensive gown in its day.
