Vintage 1960s Fléchet Fur Felt Hat with Wide Pliable Brim

Vintage 1960s Fléchet Fur Felt Hat with Wide Pliable Brim

$110.00

This is a superb quality vintage 1960s Fléchet fur felt hat.  Fléchet is a venerable French millinery house, founded in 1859 in Chazelles-sur-Lyon, a town long associated with France’s finest hat making. Fléchet hats of the 1960s and earlier are considered on par with Borsalino for the quality of their felts, shaping, and finishing—and this example is an excellent illustration of their craftsmanship.

This hat is made of 100% fur felt, very soft and pliable, with a velvety black finish. The wide brim measures 3 1/2” and can be worn turned down for dramatic impact or sculpted upward for a more structured silhouette, as shown in the photos. The crown has clean, modern lines and measures 4 1/4” in height, finished with a classic black grosgrain band and understated bow detail at the rear.

The interior features Fléchet’s gold-stamped logo at the top of the crown and a black grosgrain sweatband marked “100% Fur Felt.” The sweatband measures 21 1/4” around, corresponding to approximately a French size 54–55 or a U.S. size 6 3/4 to 6 7/8. As with many French-made hats of the period, it is meant to sit slightly higher on the head rather than deeply fitted.

Condition: In excellent condition—clean, supple, and showing no notable wear, soiling, or moth damage. The felt remains exceptionally pliable, allowing the brim to be shaped to your preference.

This is a beautifully made vintage 1960s Fléchet fur felt hat—elegant, sculptural, and versatile. A wonderful example of mid-century French millinery and an excellent addition to any hat collection!
