Vintage Crombie Coat 1960s Chesterfield Overcoat Dated 1964

$195.00

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a mens vintage Crombie coat made in a velvet collar chesterfield style using Scottish Crombie wool cloth.  This vintage Crombie coat is dated on the tailor’s label with May 1964.  It made in a charcoal grey colour with a black velvet collar.  This vintage Crombie coat has high set medium width notched lapels and does up with three buttons at the front.  There is a pocket at the left chest and a flapped pocket at either side.  The shoulders are squared and padded and the sleeves have two buttons at either cuff.  This vintage Crombie coat has a 17” kick vent at the back and the coat is fully lined in a black satin fabric.  Although technically this was not made by Crombie, who started to produce coats only in 1985, these Chesterfield styled coats made of Crombie cloth are still referred to a Crombie coats and were adopted by the British skinhead and suedehead cultures from the mid-60s onwards.

Label: Cloth Made by Crombie Aberdeen, Scotland Regd.

Tailor’s label:  Tailored By Magiocco Bros Montreal.  The interior label reads “Tailored Especially For J. Druckman Date 19/5/64 No 2828

Sizing: As this was custom tailored, there is no size indicated on this vintage Crombie coat, but it should fit a size large (US size 42/44), depending on whether you wish to wear a jacket underneath - please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: 19” across seam-to-seam

Sleeves: 25 1/2” long from the shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 17”

Chest: 48” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 46”

Overall length: 43"

Condition: This vintage Crombie coat is in very good condition with two small issues.  There is a very tiny hole at the corner of the left cuff (see last close-up photo), very minor, but maybe warrants a couple of stitches.  The other issue is that the right shoulder is heavily padded and the left shoulder is barely padded.  It appears that the pad was added to the right shoulder, why I don’t know.  It doesn’t seem to affect the appearance of the coat, but you could easily remove the pad if desired.  Otherwise, there is no other wear, tear, staining or odour, and this vintage Crombie coat looks like it saw little use and was well stored over the years.

This is a quality Scottish wool mens vintage Crombie coat!
