This is a lovely quality 100% pure cashmere cardigan sweater made in Scotland by Ballantyne for Holt Renfrew of Canada. It dates to the 1960s. The sweater features a pretty salmon pink colour. It has above the wrist length sleeves and a collar that crosses at the neck that is finished in four rows of fringe. It does up the front with eight mother-of-pearl buttons. It is unlined and the cuffs and bottom are ribbed. The cashmere is ultra soft.
Label: Made in Scotland Exclusively for Holt Renfrew in Canada by Ballantyne 100% Pure Cashmere
Sizing: No size is indicated, and although the lady from whom this was acquired normally wore a medium size, please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 15” across, seam to seam
Sleeves: 19” from the shoulder seam
Sleeve inseam: 13 1/2”
Bust: 39” around, taken under the arms
Bottom: 25” around, unstretched, stretches out to 34” max - it has a ribbed bottom
Overall length: 20”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with the exception of a repair to either armpit. The original owner applied a small patch to the interior of the seam joint - there is still a small separation to a seam at either patch, but this could be easily sewn. Otherwise, there is no pronounced wear or other defect. I have laundered the item, so it is ready to wear.
This is a lovely quality cashmere sweater in a pretty pink colour - with a tiny bit of work, this will be a lovely sweater. Priced as is.
