Vintage 1950s Phantom Seamed Nylon Stockings 2 Pairs NOS Size 9
These are two pairs of vintage 1950s seamed nylon stockings made in Canada under the Phantom brand name by National Hosiery Mills Limited of Hamilton, Ontario. National Hosiery Mills was a longstanding Canadian hosiery manufacturer, and the Phantom name was used for its hosiery products.
Both pairs come in their original Phantom box, with each pair enclosed in its original printed paper sleeve. The wrappers have a particularly striking spiderweb design along with the distinctive Phantom Sanitized logo, while the black box features the wonderful Phantom woman's face and gold lettering.
The stockings are stamped:
“Phantom Sanitized®
75-10
Luxury Evening Sheer
9
Medium”
The 75-10 designation appears to indicate 75 gauge and 10 denier, making these exceptionally fine, sheer evening stockings. They are full-fashioned nylons with back seams and Cuban heels.
The original box identifies the colour as “Hint-O'-Black.” Despite the name, the stockings appear to be a very dark brown rather than black.
These stockings most likely date to the 1950s, probably the mid-1950s. The original price of $1.49 is written on the underside of the box.
Both pairs are unused and remain in excellent condition. The original box has considerable wear from age and storage, including creasing, edge and corner wear, surface wear and old tape, as shown in the photographs. The original paper wrappers also have some storage creasing.
An especially appealing set of vintage Canadian hosiery, with two unused pairs together with their original Phantom box and wonderful spiderweb-printed wrappers.
