Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a vintage 1950s overcoat made of tweed wool in an attractive teal blue grey colour.  The coat is dated to 1956 on the tailor’s label.  This vintage 1950s overcoat has padded shoulders, high set medium width notched lapels, a three button front, turned half cuffs with a button, a 16 1/2”’ kick vent at the back and a flapped patch pocket at either side.  It is half lined in grey satin - upper back, sleeves and sides, only the lower back and sides are unlined.  The interior backing of the tweed fabric is checked.

Label: Raoul Garneau & Fils Garno Manufacturiers de Vêtements 369, Blvd. Charest Est, Quebec

Tailor’s label:  the original owner’s name in ink along with the date of 27-11-56

Color: You can see blue flecks in the close-up photo as well as the odd red fleck against a base weave in black and white or light grey.  The overall effect gives the impression of a teal grey colour

Sizing: No size is indicated as this vintage 1950s overcoat was custom tailored, and although it should fit a large to extra large size tall (US size 44/46) depending on if you will be wearing a suit jacket underneath, please rely on the following measurements for fit, noting the width of the shoulders and the length of the sleeves (maybe compare to a coat that you own):

Shoulders: 21” across seam-to-seam

Sleeve:  28” long from the shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 19” long

Chest: 50”, taken under the arms

Waist: 50”

Hips:  52”

Overall length: 50”, measured flat at the back from the neck seam

Condition: This vintage 1950s overcoat is in very good condition with the exception of wear holes to the lining that covers the kick vent (see last close-up photo) as well as to the lining at the lower sides.  In addition, in the last close-up photo, you can see a bit of wear to the checked lining, but this is not visible on the exterior.  Otherwise, this vintage 1950s overcoat presents itself very well - it would benefit from a dry cleaning.

This is a wonderful vintage 1950s overcoat - with a bit of work to the lining and a cleaning, this will be a great coat, sure to last for many years…..
