This is a wonderful 1950s era men’s overcoat made of quality wool in a navy blue colour, I think blended with cashmere fabric, due to its feel - there is no content label, so I can’t be sure of the cashmere content. There are numbers on the manufacturer’s label, such as 50 and 55/1, and the coat has a lot of the features of a 1940s overcoat, so I think the coat dates to the early to mid 1950s. It is made in a classic overcoat style with padded shoulders, wide and long peaked lapels, rather impressive, a six button double breasted closure, flapped side patch pockets, single button turned sleeve cuffs and 18” kick vent. The coat is half lined in black satin rayon. The fabric is fairly thick and would provide good warmth in cold winter temperatures.
Sizing: There is no size label, and although this should fit a size 44/46, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric and the cut of the garment into consideration):
Shoulders: 20” across shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 26” from shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeve Inseam: 17” long
Chest: 50” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 48”
Hips: 48”
Overall length: 48“, measured flat
Condition: Although pre-owned, this coat is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, soiling or odour - a little wear to one buttonhole depending on which side you button up the coat, fairly minor. Otherwise, the coat looks like it saw little use and was well stored. It is very clean and has been well stored.
This is a great coat - fabulous style and very nice quality, they don’t tailor coats like this any more…
