This is a classic vintage 1950s men’s suit dating to the late 50s, possibly very early 60s.  The jacket is single-breasted with notched lapels, padded shoulders, and a straight, slightly elongated cut.  It has jetted side pockets and a chest pocket.

The trousers are high-waisted with a pleated front and close with a metal zipper..  The pant leg tapers to a turned cuff.

Retailer’s label:  Max Beauvais (Limited), 355 St. James Street W., Montreal.  Max Beauvais was founded in 1898 and was a well known Montreal haberdashery.

Origin: most likely tailored in Montreal, Canada for Max Beauvais

Sizing: There is no size tag as this was most likely custom tailored.  Although it should fit a small to medium size (US size 36 to maybe 38), please refer to the measurements below for best fit.

Shoulders: 17" across seam-to-seam

Chest: 41" around, taken under the arms

Waist: 39" around

Hips: 46" around

Sleeves: 24 1/2" from shoulder seam

Sleeve inseam: 16 1/4"

Overall length: 30", measured at the back from the neck seam

Pants:

Waist: 34"

Inseam: 28"

Length: 39 1/2"

Condition:  In very good condition. Both pieces retain old dry cleaning tickets.  No pronounced wear, tear, soiling, staining or odour - very well preserved.

This is a well-tailored vintage 1950s men’s suit with clean lines and classic construction—nice quality and great look!
