This is a vintage 1940s tuxedo made by Montreal tailor Tony The Tailor.  Tony the Tailor still exists today, located in downtown Montreal and is run by the third generation.  The tuxedo dated to November 1948 on the tailor’s label and belonged originally to a doctor.  This 1940s tuxedo is made in classic 1940s form with padded shoulders, faille covered peaked lapels and a four button front with single button closure.  The jacket has a chest pocket and a jetted pocket at either side.  The sleeves have a three button cuff.  The pants have a metal zipper fly and buttons on the interior waistband and exterior back waist that would accommodate suspenders - no suspenders are supplied.  There is a satin stripe down the legs of the pants.

Fabric:  Wool.  Made in November, this 1940s tuxedo is more of a winter weight wool.

Sizing: There is no size label, and although this 1940s tuxedo should fit a large size (US 42), please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric into consideration):

Shoulders: 17 1/2” across shoulder seam-to-seam

Sleeves: 25 1/2” from the shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 17 1/4” long

Chest: 46” around

Waist: 43” around

Overall length: 31“ measured flat

Pants:

Waist:  39” around, should be a little loose, held up by the suspenders.  This was typical, so that after overeating at a banquet the wearer would be comfortable.

Leg Inseam:  30” long

Length:  42” long, measured flat along the satin stripe

Condition: This 1940s tuxedo is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, staining, soiling or odour - it looks like it saw little use, and was very kept over the years.

This is a quality 1940s tuxedo - beautifully tailored, wonderful 40s style!
