This is a vintage 1940s skirt suit made of wool gabardine in an attractive colour that I would call dark raspberry. The jacket of this 1940s skirt suit has padded, squared shoulders typical of the 1940s, with a squared collar and a four button closure. It has a longer silhouette with an accented waistline. The sleeves are made in a full length. There is a large semi-circular pocket at either lower side. The skirt has a lower-calf length, has tucks below the waistline, which gives the skirt its form, a pleat down the centre and does up with a metal zipper and button at the side. The jacket to this 1940s skirt suit is fully lined and the skirt is unlined.
Label: none
Sizing: No size is indicated on this 1940s skirt suit, and although this should fit a medium size, please note the following measurements, taken from the outside, and taking the style of the suit into account:

Sleeves: 23 1/2” from shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 17” long
Bust: 36” around, taken under the arms

Overall length: 26 1/2”
Skirt:
Waist: 26” inside dimension
Hips: 38” around, meant to hang loosely

Condition: This 1940s skirt suit is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, stains or odours, but there is a bit of slight shininess to the fabric, nothing very obvious. Also, there are some marks caused by a skirt grip hanger. Finally, there is a tiny speck of, I think, paint on the lower skirt (see last close-up photo). I haven’t tried to remove this, but it should come out with the right treatment - very minor in any case. Otherwise, this 1940s skirt suit looks to have been well cared for and stored over the years.
This is a wonderful 1940s skirt suit - attractive colour and flattering style!
