Vintage 1940s Lamps Majolica Glazed Ceramic Art Nouveau Revival
This is a pair of vintage 1940s lamps that are made in ceramic in the Art Nouveau revival style. Each lamp is sculpted with large, stylized trumpet flowers emerging from a twisting pedestal base, finished in a rich, high-gloss majolica-type glaze - note the oil-slick appearance of the glaze.
The ceramic portion of each lamp measures 13" in height, and the total height including harp and finial is 27 1/2". The finials are original ceramic in matching glaze.
I have removed the sockets and harps for safer shipping, so simple reassembly will be required upon arrival.
Dating: Based on the hardware, ceramic construction, glaze palette, and sculptural form, these lamps date to the late 1940s to early 1950s. This period saw a revival of Art Nouveau botanical forms, which blended seamlessly into the Hollywood Regency popular at the time.
Condition: One lamp has a glue repair to one pistil on its flower cluster (see last two photos).
Minor glaze wear and small firing imperfections typical of mid-century ceramics - one tiny flake noted on one finial.
Lamps function when tested, but as with all vintage lighting, rewiring or at least testing by a professional is recommended for long-term use even through the wiring looks to be excellent. Note that each socket has a different on/off system - the sockets were most likely changed at some point.
Style: Perfect for Art Nouveau-inspired interiors or a glamorous Hollywood Regency setting. These vintage 1940s lamps make an eye-catching statement in a living room, bedroom, or entryway.
