Vintage 1940s Anne Marie Evening Bag Hôtel Meurice Paris – Handmade Bag

This elegant vintage 1940s Anne Marie evening bag was handmade in France and sold at her boutique located inside the historic Hôtel Meurice on Rue de Rivoli, Paris. Anne Marie specialized in novelty handbags, many of which are in museum collections - you can view some of them online.  This evening bag is a bit more traditional, but smacks of quality nevertheless.  The bag features Pointe de Beauvais embroidery, a traditional French tambour chain-stitch technique known for its fine detail and softly raised texture. The front of the purse displays a beautifully shaded bouquet of roses and small blossoms in pink, coral, and green tones, worked in hundreds of tiny chain stitches. The design is mirrored on the back in a smaller motif. The top frame is decorated with tiny glass seed beads, forming a coordinating floral garland in red, pink, white, and black.

The purse is crafted in a luxe black silk peau de soie (or silk-blend peau de soie) fabric with a soft, satin-matte sheen. Inside, the lining is marked “Made in France – Hand Made” along with the Anne-Marie signature stamp.

Condition:  Excellent, no notable wear, clean and ready to use
