This is a wonderful example of an enamel brooch made by Quebec jewelry artisans Micheline de Passille and Yves Sylvestre. The back of the brooch is signed “Fait au Quebec Made in Canada de Passille-Sylvestre”. Michelle de Passille and Yves Sylvestre started producing enamel jewelry in 1960 and were skilled enamelists.
The piece features an abstract modernist representation of a male and female couple along with their dog. The piece is made in black enamel on a gold toned metal with a green dot and red dot representing the faces on the people. The brooch measures 1 5/8” high by 2 1/8” wide. It is made with a slight curvature and is of solid quality, heavy for its size, weighing 1 oz. It is in very good condition with no wear, chipping or other defect.
Quebec produced some very good jewelry artisans during the 60s and 70s, with de Passille and Sylvestre considered amongst the best.....this is a wonderful enamelled brooch - great modernist design!
