Large Vintage 1930s Meissen Porcelain Bowl Hand Painted Gold & Polychrome Flowers

Brand Etsy

This is a large Meissen porcelain bowl that is decorated with hand painted flowers in its centre and generously in gold on raised floral detail. This bowl is meant as a decorative piece rather than a functional one - much too pretty to fill with food. The underside is marked with the Meissen crossed swords backstamp that was used from 1934 until 1945. There are two scratches through the mark, which means that it has been designed a seconds quality. Meissen was very exacting about their production, so much so that often it is impossible to see what is wrong with the item. Ive spent about 20 minutes looking at every inch of this piece and I couldnt tell you why it is a seconds quality - it displays beautifully. It measures 12 1/4 in diameter with a height of about 2 3/4 at its edge. It is in excellent condition - please view the photos. Despite being a seconds quality, this is a beautiful Meissen porcelain bowl - striking display piece!
