Large 1940s Italian Figurine Art Deco Lady Attrib Teodoro Sebelin
This is a large 1940s Italian figurine, attributed to Teodoro Sebelin.
This finely modelled figure depicts a seated lady wearing a flowing emerald-green dress decorated with hand-painted floral motifs. She holds a basket of polychrome flowers, rendered in high relief with individually modelled petals. The figure is seated on a shaded rectangular base and displays the elongated facial features, stylized hair, and elegant posture commonly associated with Sebelin’s figural work.
The underside is hollow, which is typical of Italian ceramic figures of this scale and period and was done for firing and structural purposes. The underside bears a handwritten “Italy”mark, consistent with export pieces from the period.
Attribution: While unsigned, the modelling style, scale, glaze palette, and overall execution closely align with known works by Teodoro Sebelin. As such, the piece is offered as attributed to Teodoro Sebelin.
Measurements:
Width: approximately 8 inches
Depth: approximately 9 1/2 inches
Height: approximately 9 inches
Condition: In very good ondition overall. There are two small chips to individual flower petals, visible on close inspection only. No cracks, repairs, or restoration observed. Glaze remains vibrant and well preserved.- a more thorough cleaning would be beneficial.
This is a substantial and decorative 1940s Italian figurine - wonderful either as a standalone display piece or addition to a collection of Italian ceramics!
