Vintage Austrian Trachten Hat by Franz Bittner – Size 58
This vintage Austrian Trachten hat was made by Franz Bittner, Hutmacher, of Bad Ischl and Bad Gastein, Austria. Established in 1862 and still in operation today, Franz Bittner is known for traditional Alpine hatmaking.
The hat is crafted in deep forest green velour fur felt with a flat crown and a 2 1/2" brim. It features a wide green silk ribbon band finished with a traditional Alpine feather mount. The silhouette is consistent with mid-20th century Austrian Tracht hats, most likely dating to the late 1950s or early 1960s.
Traditionally worn by men as part of regional Austrian or Bavarian dress (Tracht), this style can also be incorporated into contemporary wardrobe styling.
Measurements
Size: 58 (approximately US 7 1/4)

Condition
Very good condition. The felt body remains crisp and well-shaped. There is visible staining to the ribbon and some edge fraying to the ribbon fabric (see photos) - I have not tried to remove or treat the stains. The feather decoration remains intact. The hat displays well overall.
