Eddie Rochester Anderson 1948 Autograph on Vancouver The Cave Pamphlet Jack Benny Show
$250.00
Brand Etsy
This is an authentic Rochester autograph personally signed by him and his wife during an appearance in 1948 at The Cave Supper Club in Vancouver, British Columbia. Eddie Rochester Anderson, of course, was famous at that time for being Jack Bennys sidekick on the radio - his first appearance on the radio show was in 1937 and he became a regular. This is prior to the Jack Benny television show which started in 1950, and in which Rochester was also a regular. The autograph was personally collected by a resident of Vancouver who attended the show, so there is no doubt as to authenticity. The front cover is signed by Rochesters wife with Mrs Rochester in blue ink while Eddie Rochester Anderson signed simply Rochester in black ink. The Cave was a very popular chain of clubs with locations in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Edmonton. The Vancouver location was open from 1937 until 1981 and hosted performers such as Josephine Baker, Louis Armstrong, Oscar Peterson, Lenny Bruce, Duke Ellington, Stan Getz, Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Sonny and Cher, Lena Horne, Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Everly Brothers, Peggy Lee, Roy Orbison, Buddy Rich, the Village People, the Police, and Ella Fitzgerald. Vancouver opened its arms to Rochester - there is a blog online that reprints newspaper articles regarding his appearance in Vancouver.
This piece measures 6 7/8 by 5 1/4 closed, 10 1/2 open - it is a single piece of folded cardboard. it is in very good condition with no noted wear, just a teeny nick at the bottom, really nothing.
This is a wonderful collectible piece for Vancouverites or for the fan of Rochester, who was the highest paid African American actor until the 1950s and who was hugely popular over his career.
