British Art Deco Davidson Cloud Glass No. 278 Purple Round Vase
A hard-to-find example of British Art Deco pressed glass, this Davidson Cloud Glass vase is pattern number 278, produced by George Davidson & Co. in the distinctive marbled purple colourway. The vase features a broad flared rim, geometric moulded decoration, and the beautifully swirled "Cloud Glass" effect for which Davidson became famous during the 1920s and 1930s.
Originally designed to be used with a 5 1/2 inch Davidson Premier support flower block (not included), the vase remains an impressive decorative piece in its own right. The combination of soft lavender tones and darker plum veining creates a dramatic marbled appearance that changes with the light.
Cloud Glass was one of Davidson's most successful innovations, offering the appearance of carved stone or marble while retaining the luminosity of glass. Today these pieces are highly sought after by collectors of British pressed glass and Art Deco decorative arts.
