Dated 1962 Vintage 1960s Overcoat Checked Wool Coat Mens M

$175.00

This is a dated 1962 vintage 1960s overcoat, custom-made by Allan B. Collis of Peterborough, a bespoke tailor whose label appears inside the garment. The accompanying union label from the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America confirms Canadian manufacture. Interestingly, the coat was made for A. S. Collis as a “Special Order”, likely a family member of the tailor, suggesting a personal commission made to higher standards.

This vintage 1960s overcoat is tailored in a mid-grey wool with a subtle check pattern. The wool is of excellent quality—dense and fairly heavy, ideal for cold weather wear. It features a three-button single-breasted front, a high set notched lapel, flapped hip pockets, and a welted chest pocket. The back has a 15-inch kick vent for ease of movement. Inside, the coat is half-lined in striped burgundy satin.

Material: 100% wool (medium-heavy weight)
Lining: Burgundy striped satin (rayon)
Origin: Peterborough, Canada (Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America label)
Date: May 14, 1962
Colour: Charcoal grey and black check

Sizing:  Being custom tailored, there is no size label, and although this vintage 1960s overcoat should fit a size medium (US size 38/40),  please rely on the following measurements for fit (taken flat):

Shoulders: 17 ½ inches seam to seam

Sleeves: 25 inches from shoulder seam

Sleeve inseam: 17 inches

Chest: 45 inches around underarms

Waist: 42 inches around

Length: 42 inches from back neck seam to hem

Back vent: 15 inches long

Condition:  In very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, staining, soiling or odour. I did replace the last button, which is very similar to the other blue except for the blue swirling on the original buttons - really not noticeable.

This is a very nice quality vintage 1960s overcoat in an attractive pattern - sure to be noticed!
