Art Deco Christofle France Silver Plated Swan Gravy Boat with Spoon by Christian Fjerdingstad

Art Deco Christofle France Silver Plated Swan Gravy Boat with Spoon by Christian Fjerdingstad

$425.00

This gravy boat with accompanying swan form spoon was originally designed in 1925 for Christofle by Danish designer Christian Fjerdingstad.  The original design was made of resin and silver while this silver plated version was introduced in 1935.  This particular example most likely dates to the 1930s-1940s period.

The OC Knight Chess piece mark was used from 1935 until 1983.  It appears on both pieces along with Gallia, which was a proprietary white metal developed by Christofle.  “Prod. Christofle” also appears on the side of the foot of the gravy boat.  The spoon has a length of 8 1/2”, measured straight across, while the bowl measures 4” wide and 8” long including its handle, measured across the top - it has a height of 2 1/2”.

It is in very good condition with the exception of a couple of visible scratches and a bit of wear to the interior bowl (see last close-up photo).  The spoon has light wear - all wear looks worse in the close-up photos than under normal viewing.

This is a desirable art deco era Danish design piece by quality French silver manufacturer Christofle - the price takes the condition defects into account…..
