This is a 1950s vintage French police uniform jacket. This vintage French police uniform jacket has laurel leaf buttons, three of the large ones stamped on the back with “Andre 21 Paris” and one of the large ones stamped “A.M. & Co 21 Paris”. The smaller buttons are stamped “T.W. & W. 15 Paris”. In addition, there are light blue planchettes affixed to the shoulder epaulettes, each of the planchettes decorated with two gold chevron stripes and a button that reads “RF (Republique Francaise) Sureté Nationale (National Police). The two chevrons generally indicate the rank of Sergeant (NCO). One of the RF buttons is attached to the end of the “aiguillette”, the white cord hanging from the left shoulder - I think that this should be inserted into the planchette on the left shoulder as it is missing that button.
This vintage French police uniform jacket is made of a twill wool worsted in dark blue. It has heavily padded shoulders, long sleeves with turned cuffs, high set notched lapels and a four pocket front, the top pockets having button down box-pleated scalloped flaps and the button pockets having button down straight cut flaps and no box pleat. There is a 12 1/2” vent at the centre bottom back and a metal hook at either side. The interior is lined with black fabric that is reinforced with red stitching at the front and has blue wool across the lower half that would provide extra protection and warmth for this vintage French police uniform jacket.
