1989 Vintage Patrick Kelly Paris Dress Pinstripe Denim Sz 8
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is a 1989 vintage Patrick Kelly Paris dress made in France. Patrick Kelly was an African American fashion designer who was the first American to be accepted into the French “Chambre syndicale du prêt-à-porter des couturiers et des créateurs de mode”, the governing body of the French ready-to-wear industry. As such, his brand was a colleague of brands such as Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel and Christian Dior. He had a short, but illustrious career, finding fame in Paris during the mid-1980s. Unfortunately, he became ill in 1989 at the height of his success and passed away in 1990.
This Patrick Kelly Paris dress is made of white pinstriped grey cotton denim and is lined in acetate that is printed with Kelly’s iconic dice pattern. It has padded shoulders, a wonderful elongated V shaped neckline, peaked lapels, full cut sleeves with two button cuffs, a ten button front arranged in a double breasted style, a large flapped patch pocket at either hip and is made in a sheath style. The pinstriping is used to great effect on this Patrick Kelly Paris dress, emphasizing both the cut and detail of the dress.
