This vintage McGregor wool sweater dates to the late 1970s and was produced in Japan under license by Nichimen Apparel Co., Ltd. The sweater is made of an 80% wool and 20% nylon blended yarn in a thick, textured knit featuring a brown and tan plaid pattern accented with black double line checks. It has a V-neck, ribbed cuffs and waistband, and the quality expected from McGregor’s Japanese-made line.

About McGregor:
Originally founded in Canada in the 1920s, McGregor Sportswear became known for its high-quality sweaters and casual menswear, exported widely through its Montreal and New York branches. By the mid-1960s, the brand had partnered with Japan’s Nichimen Corporation to manufacture McGregor garments for the Japanese market. Nichimen Apparel Co. of Osaka and Tokyo continued to produce McGregor clothing under license into the 1980s, maintaining the same attention to fibre quality and classic styling that defined the North American line.

A nicely preserved example of McGregor’s late-1970s styling—classic, comfortable, and ideal for cooler weather.
