This is a vintage curling sweater sweater made in a cowichan style. In Canada, cowichans are referred to as curling sweaters, so this pattern is very apropos. This vintage curling sweater was hand knit using a Paton’s pattern. Paton’s was originally a Scottish company founded in 1814. It merged with J&J Baldwin and expanded globally with a factory in Canada as well as New Zealand and Australia, eventually merging with J&P Coats in 1961. This vintage curling sweater is made in a cream white colour with pattern detailing in red and black. The sweater does up with metal Lash brand zipper. It has a rounded collar, inset sleeves and there is a pocket at either lower front side. It is lined through the body in cotton muslin.
Condition: This vintage curling sweater is in very good condition except for a tear at the upper lining (see last close-up photo). Otherwise, no pronounced wear (except for some minor piling), tear, soiling or odour.
This is a great looking cowichan style vintage curling sweater - great for the curler, nice to find in this large size….original example in a heavier weight wool yarn!
