Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is a 1960s vintage cafe racer jacket made under the British Cycle Leathers brand. British Cycle Leathers (aka Brimaco) was the brand name of the British Manufacturing Co. of Canada, a firm founded in 1895, that was highly regarded for the quality that they produced and well known for their cafe racer jackets. Brimaco closed its doors before the turn of the century. It has a Lightning large tooth metal zipper down the front and a snap tab closure at the neck. It has a narrow stand-up collar and zip-up pockets at either lower side. The shoulders and elbows are protected with leather patches. The sleeves have zippers at the ends. This vintage cafe racer jacket is fully lined in nylon fabric.
Sizing: There is no size tag, and although this vintage cafe racer jacket should fit a men’s small size (US 36, maybe 38, but please note that due to the thickness of the leather, you need a bit more room for movement). Please note the following exterior measurements for fit, taking the cut and thickness of the leather into account:
Shoulders: 18” from shoulder seam to shoulder seam
Sleeves: 25 1/2”
Sleeve Inseam: 18 1/2”
Chest: 42” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 39” around
Bottom: 39” around
Length: 24 1/2”, measured flat at the back from the neck seam
Condition: This vintage cafe racer jacket is in very good condition with no pronounced wear - the leather is fairly thick and maybe slightly dry, so a leather treatment would be beneficial. This jacket saw use but any wear is commensurate with use and age.
This vintage cafe racer jacket has its origin in early 60s London, where “rockers” used their cafe racer motorcycle, a small powerful bike built for speed rather than comfort, to travel between London cafe hangouts. This vintage cafe racer jacket bestows an authentic early rocker look upon the wearer even if you don’t own a motorcycle.
This is a nice quality leather vintage cafe racer jacket - hard to find in blue!
