1950s Vintage Squirrel Fur Jacket P. Leclerc Fourrures Quebec Short Coat
This is a vintage squirrel fur jacket by P. Leclerc Fourrures, a Quebec furrier located on St-Joachim Street in Québec City. The jacket features padded shoulders, a wide shawl-style collar, fur hook closure for closing the neck, and turned-back cuffs. The cut and construction suggest a 1950s dating.
Squirrel fur was widely used in North American fur garments of this period. In the fur trade, red squirrel pelts were sourced from Eastern Europe and Russia - the Red Squirrel is different from North American squirrels, and the fur is prized for its softness and robust quality.
The interior is fully lined in a brown satin jacquard with a small floral motif, and retains the original P. Leclerc Fourrures, Québec maker’s label.
