1950s Vintage Men’s Overcoat Crombie’s De Luxe Wool Size 40
This is an early 1950s vintage men’s overcoat, made from Crombie’s De Luxe “Superlative Fabric”— a high-quality wool cloth woven in Scotland by J. & J. Crombie Ltd., renowned for producing some of the finest overcoating wools in the world.
The coat was retailed by Henry Morgan & Co. Limited, the prestigious Montreal department store that operated under this name until 1957, when it was rebranded as “Morgan’s.” The presence of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America union label, used between 1949 and 1962, further supports an early-1950s date of manufacture.
This classic overcoat is tailored with padded shoulders and higher set medium width notched lapels, a three-button front closure, slanted welt pockets, and an 12" back kick vent. The pockets are velvet lined and the coat is half-lined in black satin acetate.. The wool fabric is thick, tightly woven, and soft — qualities that defined Crombie’s premium cloths of the period.
