1950s Vintage Gelot Paris Fedora Grey Fur Felt Hat Sz 7 1/8

1950s Vintage Gelot Paris Fedora Grey Fur Felt Hat Sz 7 1/8

$185.00

This is a vintage Gelot Paris fedora made of grey fur felt by Gelot, the celebrated Parisian hatmaker located at 15, Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Made in a classic mid-century style, the hat features a medium-grey felt body, a black grosgrain ribbon, a gently creased teardrop crown, and a 2 1/8" brim with welted edge.

The felt is finely textured and well-blocked, characteristic of Gelot’s mid-20th-century production. Based on the proportions, felt weight, and construction, the hat dates to the late 1950s to early 1960s.

Inside is the original Gelot crest, which references the house’s historic appointment as hatmaker to King Edward VII — a mark of prestige that Gelot continued to use throughout the century.

Sizing:  No size tag, but it is possible that this was custom made.  Please note the following measurements:

Sweatband circumference: 22 1/2" (fits approx. Size 7 1/8)

Condition:  In very good condition with light wear appropriate to age. The original owner’s initials of HB are gold stamped onto the sweatband.  Felt retains original nappe and is structurally sound; ribbon is intact; crest is bright with no flaking.
