This is a vintage tapestry handbag by La Marquise, dating to the 1950s or early 60s. It is crafted from woven floral tapestry fabric featuring roses and scrolling foliage in tones of gold, rose, sage green, and soft blue. The frame is made of gold-tone metal with a kiss-lock clasp and matching chain handle. The interior is lined in dark green satin and includes a metal zippered pocket with the original woven label that reads:
“Handbag by La Marquise – Made of the Finest French Tapestry.”

The bag measures 9 inches in width and 7 1/2 inches in height (excluding the handle) - the handle has a drop of 6 1/2”. The gusseted sides allow for good interior space, making it both decorative and practical.

Origin:

La Marquise was a Montreal based Canadian brand that was incorporated in 1946 and dissolved in 1993.  They imported tapestry fabrics from France and Italy for use in mid-century handbags as well as sourcing leather and other materials domestically. 

Condition:  In very good condition with light age wear to the lining and frame consistent with age. The tapestry exterior is bright and intact with no fraying or fading.
