1920s Japanese Hand Painted Glass Lamp Shade with Coralene Trees
This is a hand painted glass lamp globe dating to the 1920s–early 1930s and most likely made in Japan for export to the North American market.
The shade is decorated with a romantic pastoral landscape featuring a red-roofed cottage, distant hills, and stylized trees highlighted with raised enamel (coralene-style) beadwork. The background transitions from a warm amber sunset tone to soft green along the lower band. The interior is satinized, allowing the shade to emit a soft, diffused glow when illuminated.
The trees are embellished with applied raised enamel paint in varying tones of green, creating texture and dimension characteristic of Japanese interwar scenic lamp shades.

About Japanese Scenic Lamp Shades (1920s–1930s)
During the interwar period, Japanese glass manufacturers produced decorative hand painted lamp shades for the North American market. These scenic domed globes often feature pastoral cottages, mountain landscapes, and raised enamel foliage. Their atmospheric colouring and textured enamel details make them especially appealing for Arts & Crafts, Art Deco, and vintage-inspired interiors.
