Marcel Franck French Art Deco Olive Green Craquelé Glass Vanity Jar with Lid c.1930s
This French Art Deco vanity jar is attributed to Marcel Franck, the renowned Parisian maker of luxury perfume atomizers and dressing-table accessories. It appears to have originally formed part of one of the firm's distinctive coordinated vanity sets in olive-green craquelé glass, similar examples of which are known to include matching perfume bottles, atomizers, tumblers and covered jars.
The jar is made from translucent olive-green glass with a satin finish and decorated throughout with an intricate white craquelé pattern that creates depth and texture. The glass darkens subtly around the shoulder and mushroom-shaped finial, providing an attractive contrast with the lighter body.
Although unmarked, the colour, decoration and form corresponds to documented Marcel Franck vanity sets produced in France during the mid-twentieth century. Marcel Franck was internationally celebrated for producing luxury perfume accessories and dressing-table ensembles, commissioning finely crafted European glass for many of its designs.
Originally intended as a dressing-table vanity jar, similar examples are sometimes described as cotton-wool jars. Its versatile size also makes it ideal today for jewellery, cosmetics, trinkets or simply as an attractive decorative object.
