This is a wonderful vintage hippie dress that was made in Afghanistan, probably during the early 1970s.  The dress is made in a traditional Afghani style that was very popular with young people/hippies during the late 60s and early 70s.  This is an especially nice example with a patchwork of floral and geometric patterned fabrics, finely embroidered bodice and a triangular metallic embroidered and mirrored centre piece with a black rosette at each corner.  The front and back both have black pleated panels down the middle of the dress and the dress is cut with a wide flare down to the hemline.  The sleeves are cut wide and the dress has a high waistline.  The bodice and upper back are lined in a printed fabric while the rest of the dress is unlined.  There are no openings, so the dress simply fits over the head.

Age: early to mid 1970s

Label: Maiden Heaven Made in Afghanistan 100% Cotton CA02721.  The CA number belongs to Morningstar Trading of Toronto.
