This is a vintage oval side plate made in the Royal Doulton Hotelware Steelite Windsor pattern, which consists of cranberry red pheasants and flowers, very pretty. This pattern is basically the same as the Ridgway Staffordshire Windsor pattern and the Wedgwood/Ralph Hall Asiatic Pheasants pattern. The underside is stamped with Royal Doulton Hotelware England Steelite. The Steelite trademark was registered in the UK on the 24th of October 1955. My understanding is that Steelite as a vitreous porcelain was introduced by Dunn Bennett & Co during the 1960s. Dunn Bennett was acquired by Doulton & Co in 1968 and became the Hotelware division of Royal Doulton. Doulton sold off the Hotelware division in 1983 to a new company named Steelite International plc.. I have eight of these plates, price is for each. Each plate measures 6 1/4 by 8 and weighs 12 oz. Each is in very good condition with no scratches, chips, cracks or wear. Very sturdy dishes, excellent quality, rarely seen - pretty pattern!
