This is a figural fish that was made in Murano, unsigned, but attributed to the J.I. Co, Jordans Importing of New York and Murano. Jordans owner was Jack Blanco, who had a showroom in New York at 23rd street and Fifth avenue and a factory in Murano, managed by Spartaco Colelli. Blanco would design pieces but also imported glass by other makers such as Barbini and Fratelli Toso. I believe that the J.I. Co was active only from the 1950s through the 1960s. This fish is made of sommerso glass in tones of blue, red and topaz within clear - the eyes are opaque black within white. The fish measures 11 3/8 in height at its tail. It has one small problem - the tail was chipped at one corner and sanded down. In addition, there is a kink in the glass where the tail is curved, but this is original to the making of the piece. Otherwise, it is in very good condition with no other chips, cracks or wear. Despite the defect to the tail, this is a very attractive piece of mid-century glass that still displays very well as is - nice form and colour, wonderful accent piece in the right decor!
