This is a Meissen porcelain oblong bowl that is decorated with hand painted flowers and generously trimmed in gold. The bowl has a handle at either side - it really is meant as a decorative piece rather than a functional one. The underside is marked with the Meissen crossed swords backstamp that was used from 1934 until 1945. There are two scratches through the mark, which means that it has been designed a seconds quality. Meissen was very exacting about their production, so much so that often it is impossible to see what is wrong with the item. Ive spent about 20 minutes looking at every inch of this piece and I couldnt tell you why it is a seconds quality - it displays beautifully. It measures 12 in length by 7 1/2 in width with a height at the handles of about 2 1/2. As mentioned, it is in excellent condition - please view the photos. This is a beautiful Meissen porcelain dish - striking display piece!
