This is a covered or lidded vegetable bowl made in the Willow pattern by Wedgwood & Co. Wedgwood & Co is a separate entity from Josiah Wedgwood, founded by Enoch Wedgwood in 1860 - the company was eventually acquired by Josiah Wedgwood in 1980. The piece is fully transfer printed both on the top of the lid and on the interior of the bowl with a blue on white image on each of the four exterior sides. The lid has a lion finial. The Willow pattern on this piece is wonderful, especially on the interior of the bowl, which has the appearance of flow blue, really lovely. Even the crown mark on the underside, used from 1906, is blurred like flow blue. The underside is impressed with Wedgwood & Co. Ltd as well as with the date code of 2/27, which stands for February 1927. The piece is made in a square form and measures 7 3/8 by 8 3/4 across its handles - it has a height of about 5 to the top of the lids finial. It is in very good condition with only a couple of rough spots on the edge, original to the manufacture, really nothing and only mentioned in the interest of full disclosure - otherwise, no cracks, chips or scratches, this has been very well kept over the last 94 years. This is a nice addition to a Blue Willow collection - hard to find lidded serving bowl!
