Mid Century Modern Signed Chalet Canada Art Glass Topaz Centerpiece Basket Canadian Murano

This is an attractive piece of glass made in a basket or bowl form with two spoke handles emanating from either side and two pieces curved up at the other two sides. The piece is acid etch signed Chalet on its underside. Chalet was started in Montreal as Murano Glass Inc. in 1960 and when it moved to Cornwall in 1962, the name was changed to Chalet. The employees at Chalet were glassblowers who immigrated to Canada from Murano, Italy. This piece is made of topaz coloured glass cased within clear. The piece measures 17 5/8 in width and 8 1/4 in depth - it has a height of 9 3/4 to the top of the crossed pieces - it weighs 3 lbs and 12 oz. Due to its size, weight and fragility, it will be shipped well protected in an oversized box. It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks - there is some scratching to the underside due to surface contact (see last two close-up photos). This is a very nice addition to a Chalet collection or simply a wonderful display piece for a mid-century modern decor - pretty colour and form!
