This is a wonderful piece of mid-century art pottery designed by Stig Lindberg for Gustavsberg of Sweden. Stig Lindberg started as an assistant to Wilhelm Kage in 1933, but quickly rose to eventually become the head of Gustavsberg in 1949 and one of the most influential Swedish designers of the 1950s and 60s. This vase is part of the Grazia series, the first design introduced in 1946 and the last one in 1969. This particular vase was designed some time between 1951 and 1968 - unfortunately, I cant be more specific than that. It features a depiction of a woman next to flowers, wearing a branch of leaves in her hair and holding a stem of grapes - she is facing what appears to be a giant vase. She is rendered in raised silver that has taken on a black patina, - the vase is made of matte white finished fine stoneware. The vase measures 7 7/8 in height and has a diameter of about 3 1/2. It is hand inscribed on the underside with Gustavsberg DA Grazia Sweden E with the anchor mark and impressed with the number 215. It is in very good original condition with no chips or cracks - this has been well cared for over the years. This is a wonderful piece of mid-century Scandinavian art pottery, made during the Golden Age of Swedish pottery design - great addition to a collection or just as a display piece in a modern decor!
