This is a striking piece of glass made by EDAG in a large gondola shape. The piece is blue within clear with a top piecrust edge in red. EDAG was started in Montreal in 1961 by the Pavenello family as the Venice Art Glass, changing its name to EDAG in 1963. The glassblowers who worked there were immigrant glassblowers from Murano, Italy and many of the pieces are unique as EDAG glassblowers liked to express their creativity rather than create production pieces. They ceased glassblowing operations in 1976. This gondola is quite large, measuring 15 1/2 by 9 3/4 across its top with a height of 7 at the curled ends and 5 1/2 in height at the middle. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or wear, just a couple of light scratches on the underfoot from surface contact, very minor. This is a fabulous addition to a Chalet era glass collection or simply a wonderful mid-century display piece - gorgeous colour combo and form!
