This is a mid century modern Italian pottery centrepiece bowl made during the Fantoni era. Ive seen similar vase motifs by Fantoni, but I believe that this one is simply based on Fantoni, not by him, as it is unsigned except for Italy. The piece is made in an oval bowl form that is pointed at either end. The ceramic is fairly thick and the back base is pierced and has a wire that could be used to hang the plaque on a wall. There are some edge flakes (see close-up photos for all of the flakes) - it almost looks like this was displayed on a wall using a spring loaded wire, but I really dont know. Also, there is a tiny piece of clay in the middle of the piece (see photo), original to the making of the piece. Despite the small issues, it displays beautifully. It measures 16 high by 12 1/2 wide with a height of 3 at either end - it weighs 3 lbs and 2 oz.
This is a wonderful mid-century Italian pottery display piece - great for a modern decor!
