This is a lovely small coin purse, most likely of French origin, dating to the early Victorian era, mid-1800s. The piece is made with a convex piece of mother-of-pearl riveted to the front and back of a metal frame. The interior is divided into four compartments, the centre two closed with a top tab if desired. The interior is finished in a pinkish red toned cloth. The purse has a carrying chain attached to the top and closes with a metal tab. The piece measures 4 1/8 in width at its widest and 2 5/8 in height - the chain has a fall of 3 1/2. It is in very good condition with some surface corrosion/wear to the metal and some fading or wear to the interior cloth. In addition, the cut steel decoration on the front is loose, so can spin around. Im unsure if there is a piece missing at the bottom as the shape is not symmetrical, however, if you can somehow stop the piece from moving, it looks fine the way that it is posed in the photos.
Despite the small problems, this is a very old, and quite beautiful object, lovely just to display!
