Antique H&R Daniel Topographical Low Comport Queens Shape Hand Painted Lake Scene

This is an antique low comport or footed plate made by H&R Daniel in the very desirable Pierced or Queens shape. H&R Daniel was founded by Henry Daniel in 1822 - Daniel had previously had his own business within Spode that was responsible for enamelling and gilting Spodes china. This low comport features a hand painted lake scene with a small boat near a stone bridge and mountains in the background. The underside is hand inscribed with a description but most of the description is illegible except for the word Lake - I assume that this is a British lake. The comport is decorated with a satin cream finish around the painted scene and with raised detail at the edge, which is pierced and finished in gold gilt. Henry Daniels father Thomas was a colour maker for the English potteries at a time when the ceramics industry was young in England - only the largest potters could afford their own colour maker. Henry inherited Thomas recipes for colours and glazes, which proved to be a great benefit to his career. The R in H&R was Daniels son Richard who was made a partner in the business in 1826. H&R Daniel was considered to be on a par with the best porcelain makers in England, including Spode and Minton. It closed its doors due to insolvency in 1846. Due to its short life and because its production was unmarked, H&R Daniel was unappreciated for many years until research was done into its history during the late 1970s.
This piece measures 9 1/2 in diameter and 2 1/2 in height. Except for the rubbed description on the underside, it is in excellent with no chips or cracks or noted wear. This has been very well preserved over the last 175 to 200 years!
