This is an early Edwardian era button hook that is made of sterling. It is hallmarked with the Birmingham assay office anchor, the lion sterling silver guarantee and the date letter for 1902. It is part of the collection of button hooks that was amassed by a long time collector. It is a folding model that has a notched hinge so that it holds in place, whether folded within itself or extended out. The buttonhook has a top loop with an additional removable loop so that it can be attached to a chatelaine. The horseshoe shaped frame is engraved with scroll detail. This size of buttonhook would have been used as an aid in putting on gloves. It is a small piece, measuring 1 in height exclusive of the top loop and 3/4 in width at its widest. It weighs 2 grams and is in very good condition.
