This is an antique hand painted porcelain portrait plaque featuring a representation of Queen Louise of Prussia. Queen Louise (1776-1810) was beloved by her subjects and had nine children with her husband King Frederick William III of Prussia, including the future King William IV of Prussia and William I, German Emperor. The plaque was made as a blank by the firm of CM Hutschenreuther and would have been painted by one of the decorating firms located in Germany. The back of the plaque is impressed with the number 108 and with the crowned shield with the letters CM HR used by Hutschenreuther on the blank plaques that they produced during the 19th century into the early 20th century. The plaque measures 3 1/8 by 4 1/2 and is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or wear - this has been very well preserved. The plaque is in a brass standing frame that measures 3 5/8 by 5 - it is also in very good condition. In addition to the hand painted portrait, the plaque is decorated with raised gold detailing and the portrait is accented with raised white enamel paint. The porcelain has a pearlescent finish to it.
Queen Louise was very popular, even after her death, so her likeness is often found on porcelain of all types. This is a lovely antique display piece - nice quality!
